Overview and metadata sections
Bar Ferree was an Architectural historian.
Consists of two groups of material collected by Ferree: 1) copies of government reports, resolutions, proclamations, statements, and clippings concerning foreign relations, the entry of the United States into World War I, and other varied issues during the administration of Woodrow Wilson. Included are replies to Ferree's requests from the president's secretary, Joseph P. Tumulty. 2) The larger group consists of correspondence and ephemera relating to these general subjects: architecture, cathedrals of France, devastated France (after World War I), Egypt, flags, Germany, (World War I, the sinking of the Lusitania, etc.), libraries, London, museums, national politics (U.S.), New York, painting, Greece and Rome, and sculpture. Many of the letters are responses to Ferree's inquiries as secretary of the Pennsylvania Society of New York, which he founded.
The scrapbook material is arranged in subjects (from scrapbook spine titles) in alphabetical order: architecture, cathedrals of France, devastated France, Egypt, flags, Germany, libraries, London, museums, national, New York, painting, Greece and Rome, and sculpture.
There is no specific information about the acquisition of this collection. However, available information indicates that a large collection of books and materials were donated to Princeton's Marquand Library in 1925; it is possible that the materials that make up the Barr Ferree collection were part of this original gift.
For preservation reasons, original analog and digital media may not be read or played back in the reading room. Users may visually inspect physical media but may not remove it from its enclosure. All analog audiovisual media must be digitized to preservation-quality standards prior to use. Audiovisual digitization requests are processed by an approved third-party vendor. Please note, the transfer time required can be as little as several weeks to as long as several months and there may be financial costs associated with the process. Requests should be directed through the Ask Us Form.
