Overview and metadata sections

Flexner

Bernard Flexner, a lawyer, philanthropist and Zionist leader, was an early supporter of the juvenile court movement. From 1917 he lived in New York, devoting himself to various Zionist movements and organizations to aid Palestine.

Contains the personal papers of Flexner, including diaries and letters to his sister Mary while he served with the American Red Cross Commission to Romania (1917) and as counsel for the Zionist delegation to the Paris Peace Conference (1918-1919); material concerning Albert Einstein, Franklin D. Roosevelt, the Sacco-Vanzetti trial record, and the juvenile court system of the early 1900s; and miscellaneous correspondence.

Also included are biographical notes on Flexner family history, photographs, poems by Hortense, James, and Jean Flexner, and correspondence (1882-1944) between various other members of this large Kentucky family.
