Jacob Netwon Beam was a member of the Princeton Class of 1896 and served as professor of German from 1899-1927.
The collection contains correspondence pertaining to Princeton University and personal correspondence of Jacob Newton Beam (Princeton Class of 1896, professor of German, 1899-1927). Of particular note is a file of letters from his son, Jacob Dyneley Beam (Princeton Class of 1929), written while he was serving at the American embassies in London, Germany, the Soviet Union, and Indonesia. The collection also includes Jacob N. Beam's lectures notes and publications.
The original order of the materials has been maintained.
The original donor and date of donation for this collection is unknown. Additional correspondence was donated by Mrs. Jacob D. Beam, Jacob N. Beam's daughter-in-law, in 1994. One folder of material in Box 1 was transfered from the Special Collections in 2010. The accession number associated with this donation is ML.2010.034. The materials that comprise Boxes 2-4 were donated by Heather Tennies on behalf of LancasterHistory.org in 2014. The accession number associated with this donation is ML.2014.042.
For preservation reasons, original analog and digital media may not be read or played back in the reading room. Users may visually inspect physical media but may not remove it from its enclosure. All analog audiovisual media must be digitized to preservation-quality standards prior to use. Audiovisual digitization requests are processed by an approved third-party vendor. The materials that comprise Boxes 2-4 were added by Rachel Van Unen in 2014.
No materials have been separated from the 2010 or 2014 additions to this collection.
