Overview and metadata sections
Curtis was chief of the Latin-American department of the Chicago Record.
Consists of scrapbooks of newspaper clippings of Curtis' writings for the Chicago Record, 1874-1911, on matters of political and social importance and concerning his travels around the world. Topics covered include the Grover Cleveland campaign of 1888, civil service reform, foreign affairs, tariffs and finances, South America, and the Chicago Exposition of 1893 (Curtis was chief of the Latin-American department). In addition, the scrapbooks contain references to the presidential campaign of William McKinley in 1900 when Theodore Roosevelt was elected vice-president, other miscellaneous clippings, a few pamphlets, typed articles, and scattered correspondence, including two notes by William H. Taft.
Arranged chronologically, for the most part. Contents of each volume is identified in the Department's deposit book entries (#6912-7128).
For preservation reasons, original analog and digital media may not be read or played back in the reading room. Users may visually inspect physical media but may not remove it from its enclosure. All analog audiovisual media must be digitized to preservation-quality standards prior to use. Audiovisual digitization requests are processed by an approved third-party vendor. Please note, the transfer time required can be as little as several weeks to as long as several months and there may be financial costs associated with the process. Requests should be directed through the Ask Us Form.
