Overview and metadata sections
This collection contains pamphlets, articles, bulletins, pronouncements, flyers, posters, and other miscellaneous items addressing a range of political issues in Peru, including the electoral process, electoral education, corruption, impunity, privatization, and rondas campesinas (sometimes translated as peasant patrollers). The material is produced by a variety of sources, including political parties and other entities that participated in the 2002 municipal and regional elections, various organizations and movements (including student and peasant) that have mobilized around specific causes, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), state entities (such as the Oficina Nacional de Procesos Electorales) and research institutes. The items were produced with a range of aims, including education, analysis, and the advancement of political agendas.
It is worthwhile to note the use of native languages as well as Spanish in File 4: Electoral education.
Researchers should note that in File 6: Anti-privatization campaigns, the great majority of material is related to proposals to privatize the hydroelectric sector. There is a particular emphasis on the anti-privatization movement in the Department of Arequipa, where civil protest has been most intense. While this file includes primarily pamphlet material from the opposition movements, it also contains several documents published by entities defending corporate and government interests.

Series 2: Political Organizations and Movements is divided into five files covering different subject areas relating to politics. File 5: Anti-corruption and anti-impunity campaigns and File 6: Anti-privatization campaigns consist of material produced by groups that have organized around specific political concerns. File 7: Rondas Campesinas, contains literature on the rondas campesinas. File 8: Student and youth movements contains a variety of material reflecting the diverse concerns and activities of student and youth movements. Series 3: Political Analysis consists of one file of analytical articles and documents on a wide array of political issues.
The material in all files except File 6 and File 8 is arranged alphabetically by publishing organization; within each publishing organization, the items are ordered chronologically according to year of publication. The items within File 6 and File 8 are arranged chronologically according to year of publication, without specifying the names of the sources, due to the vast range of civic coalitions, movements and organizations represented in here.
In the case of undated documents, either the symbol "s.d." or brackets are used to indicate the approximate year of publication. Undated items are either placed with other undated material at the beginning of the publishing institution's section, or among other material whose dates of publication are approximately the same.
Material with unidentified publishers is labeled "Miscellaneous."
