One of the founders of the political organization Liberación Homosexual en la Argentina, Perlongher was detained by the military government in 1976. In 1981 he moved to São Paulo, where he earned a degree in sociology and then served as faculty member at the University of Campinas (UNICAMP). He died of AIDS in 1992.
