Overview and metadata sections
Henry Markinfield Addey was a London publisher who is known for publishing Gustave Doré in England and for publishing the first English edition of Edgar Allan Poe's complete poems. Born in 1818, Addey apprenticed with a bookseller in Barnsley and joined Chapman and Hall in 1845. In 1849, he partnered with Joseph Cundall to form Cundall & Addey. Three years later, he left Cundall and Addey to found his own company, Addey & Co, which existed until 1857. Following the death of his wife in 1859, Addey emigrated to the United States, where he published the serials Momus and White Mountain Echo before returning to England in 1898. Addey died in 1910.
