Overview and metadata sections
Liu Binyan was a Chinese author, journalist, and political dissident. In the spring of 1988, he came to the U.S. for teaching and writing, but was barred from returning after denouncing the Chinese government for its Beijing massacre and nationwide crackdown in June 1989. He died in East Windsor, N.J., on December 5, 2005.
The collection consists of papers of Liu, including manuscripts, notes, drafts of speeches, reviews, correspondence, audiocassettes of interviews, and other material. Included is a complete run of China Focus/China Watch (1993-1999) (a publication of the Princeton China Initiative) and most of the monthly Great Road (Princeton, N.J.).
The order of materials at the time of their transfer has been retained.
Gift of Zhu Hong (widow), Liu Dahong, and Liu Xiaoyan in 2006.
For preservation reasons, original analog and digital media may not be read or played back in the reading room. Users may visually inspect physical media but may not remove it from its enclosure. All analog audiovisual media must be digitized to preservation-quality standards prior to use. Audiovisual digitization requests are processed by an approved third-party vendor. Please note, the transfer time required can be as little as several weeks to as long as several months and there may be financial costs associated with the process. Requests should be directed through the Ask Us Form.
