Overview and metadata sections
The collection consists of an open collection for general photographs of sites and subjects in Greece, including photographs of the Parthenon, Athens, Smyrna, Corfu, and other locations in Greece from the mid 19th century until the late 20th century.
Photographs are listed in the order of their accession.
Some of the photographs are gifts of the Program in Hellenic Studies with the support of the Stanley J. Seeger Hellenic Fund. Others were purchased from Dimitri Gondicas, Bernard J. Shapero, Antiquariat KaraJahn, Ex Libris Museum, F.A. Bernett, Robert Frew Ltd., Krul Antiquarian Books, and Petros Vergos, and acquired with matching funds provided by the Program in Hellenic Studies with the support of the Stanley J. Seeger Hellenic Fund; 2000-2014.
For preservation reasons, original analog and digital media may not be read or played back in the reading room. Users may visually inspect physical media but may not remove it from its enclosure. All analog audiovisual media must be digitized to preservation-quality standards prior to use. Audiovisual digitization requests are processed by an approved third-party vendor. Please note, the transfer time required can be as little as several weeks to as long as several months and there may be financial costs associated with the process. Requests should be directed through the Ask Us Form.
