Alaric A. Watts was a British poet and journalist. Watts wrote for various publications and published a book of poetry, Poetical Sketches, before becoming editor of the Literary Souvenir in 1824. Watts later started the United Service Gazette, which he edited until 1847.
The collection consists of approximately 80 letters to Watts, some of which were received during the period when he was editor of the Literary Souvenir (1824-1838) and the United Service Gazette (1837-1847), from such authors, poets, and editors as William Harrison Ainsworth, Edward Bulwer-Lytton, and Thomas Noon Talfourd.
Arranged alphabetically.
This collection was formed as a result of a departmental practice of combining into one collection manuscript material of various accessions relating to a particular author.
Purchased from Ximenes in 1984.
