Overview and metadata sections
Arthur Gläser, also known as Albrecht Hömer, was a German novelist, poet, and critic.
The collection consists primarily of Gläser's writings, notes, diaries, calendars, and ledgers. The writings include his poems to his wife, Kathi Albrecht-Gläser; essays; literary criticism; epigrams; an autograph manuscript of Das Schwarze Buch (1923) along with a diary Gläser kept during the writing of the book; and the typed manuscript with holograph corrections of Der Wind Vor Tag (1948), which he wrote under the pseudonym of "Albrecht Homer." The ledgers (1916, 1925-1942) document personal accounts and expenditures, including payments for literary works. There is also a sketchbook of pencil drawings (1920), a bibliography, magazine articles (1929-1939) compiled by Gläser and his wife, and a small selection of correspondence (1940s).
The following standard abbreviations, or their variations, are used to identify materials in this collection: AMsS = autograph manuscript signed and TMsS = typed manuscript signed.
Some of the manuscripts and found in draft form in the collection came to print in the following publication: Der Wind Vor Tag (Berlin: Druckhaus Tempelhof, 1949), by Arthur Gläser under the pseudonym Albrecht Hömer.
The collection was formed as a result of a departmental practice of combining into one collection manuscript material of various accessions relating to a particular author.
Gift of Dr. Ludwig Glaeser.
