Overview and metadata sections
A graduate of Princeton University in 1887, David Graham Phillips was an American journalist and author.
The collection consists of selected manuscripts of novels, plays, short stories, essays, and articles of Phillips (Princeton Class of 1887). Manuscripts of novels include two holograph chapters of Susan Lenox, two complete, typed versions of the same novel, and autograph manuscripts of sixteen other novels, among which are A Woman Ventures, The Husband's Story, and The Second Generation. The collection also includes eight short stories, two plays, various articles, and essays from The Treason of the Senate and The Reign of Guilt.
The manuscripts are divided into five categories--novels, plays, short stories, essays, and articles--and are sorted alphabetically within each category.
The manuscripts were originally in the possession of Mrs. Frevert, a sister of Phillips. In her will she left the collection to Robert W. Chambers, who donated the material to Princeton in 1930.
The collection was formed as a result of a Departmental practice of combining into one collection material of various accessions relating to a particular person, family, or subject.
