Overview and metadata sections
Gwendolyn (Steele) Fortson Waring attended Princeton University graduating with the Class of 1977. She received her BA in Political Economy along with a teacher certification, and a certification in African American studies. In 1992, Waring earned her juris doctor from Georgia State University College of Law. After several years, she opened her own practice, The Waring Law Firm, LLC in Savanah, Georgia.
This collection contains photographs, negatives, and digitized images collected or produced by Gwendolyn (Steele) Fortson Waring. The images were taken during Waring's time at Princeton, 1973-1977, and show unidentified events and programs produced by the Third World Center and black collegiate life at Princeton.
There are four series: Candid Photos, Events, Portraits, and Physical Copies. The arrangement of the physical material has been kept. The original arrangement of the digital collection was one folder and the files were in alphabetical order. The original titles of the files reflected their digitization and not the content or orgin of the image in most cases. The present arrangement groups the images by their content. Overall, the file titles have been changed to reflect their content. In some cases, the description of the images within a series produced repetitive titles thus the original file names were kept.
Gift of Gwendolyn (Steele) Fortson Waring, March-April 2017.
