Overview and metadata sections

Princeton University. Institute for International and Regional Studies.

The Princeton Institute for International and Regional Studies (PIIRS) is Princeton University's international and regional studies center. PIIRS was established in 2003 when the Center of International Studies at Princeton University merged with the university's regional studies programs. PIIRS is governed by an Executive Committee of faculty associates. Its stated goals are to promote research, learning and discourse on the cultures of the world and issues of global importance. To this end the Institute supports programs and activities such as conferences and workshops. In addition, PIIRS offers the Global Seminar (six-week experiential learning courses taught by Princeton faculty in various locations around the world), and an Undergraduate Fellows Program that funds students' summer research abroad for their senior thesis, and many of its PIIRS programs offer undergraduate certificates.

PIIRS is the sponsoring institution for World Politics, a journal in international relations and comparative politics. It operates several programs for visiting scholars, including the Fung Global Fellows Program, which brings six early-career faculty from abroad to Princeton for a year of research, writing and collaboration around a common theme.

The Center of International Studies at Princeton was a research center that was part of Princeton University's Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs. It was founded in 1951 by scholars who came to Princeton from Yale Institute of International Studies under the leadership of the center's first director, Frederick S. Dunn. The Yale Institute of International Studies was active from 1935 to 1950/51.

The Princeton Institute for International and Regional Studies (PIIRS) is Princeton University's international and regional studies center. The PIIRS Records document the institute's activities and include material from its precursor organizations, the Yale Institute of International Studies and the Center of International Studies at Princeton University.

Records of the Yale Institute of International Studies include yearly reports (1935-1950) and executive committee meetings (1935-1944). Records of the Center of International Studies at Princeton University include policies and funding propoasals that enumerate the organization and activities of the Center, publications such as the Center for Interational Studies monograph series and occassional papers, as well as select conferences. Recrods of PIIRS include documentation of fellows, courses, and activities through its annual reports.
