Dick Kazmaier was a Princeton University student and football player from 1948 to 1952. Born Richard Kazmaier Jr. on November 23, 1930 in Maumee, Ohio, he attended Princeton University from 1948 to 1952, playing football all four years. He was part of the undefeated teams of 1950 and 1951, and in 1951 won the Heisman Trophy. Though he was recruited by the NFL, Kazmaier did not play football after his undergraduate years. In 1966, Kazmaier was inducted to the College Football Hall of Fame. Princeton retired his jersey number, #42, in 2008.
He was the father of Patty Kazmaier-Sandt ('86), member of the Princeton women's ice hockey team.
The Dick Kazmaier Papers include Kazmaier's course materials (class notes, exams, and thesis research material), as well as football team photographs and award certificates, and a scapbook of newspaper clipplings from 1949 to 1953.
The papers were donated by Patricia Kazmaier in January 2016, with a later addition in October 2016.
For preservation reasons, original analog and digital media may not be read or played back in the reading room. Users may visually inspect physical media but may not remove it from its enclosure. All analog audiovisual media must be digitized to preservation-quality standards prior to use. Audiovisual digitization requests are processed by an approved third-party vendor. Please note, the transfer time required can be as little as several weeks to as long as several months and there may be financial costs associated with the process. Collection Inventory
Box 1 and portion of Box 2 contain Kazmaier's course notebooks and lab books, including some examinations, for undergraduate work between 1949 and 1952. It contains Kazmaier's two junior papers in Psychology from 1951, his research materials for his senior thesis, and handwritten manuscript of the thesis ("The Company and the Union: A Case Study"). The box also contains a Princeton Calendar pamphlet publication naming Kazmaier as Man of the Week, a press release from Princeton Public Relations on the varsity season of 1950, and a list of undergraduates eligible for upperclass clubs in February 1950.

Box 3 contains 13 oversized photographs and awards: Princeton football team photographs from 1949 to 1951; Kazmaier's Varsity Award of 1952, certificates for two All-American football teams in 1951, a Charles Caldwell memorial print, an AP newsfeatures "Talented Tiger" illustration featuring Kazmaier, and a laminated poster for a much later PU salute shared with Bill Bradley (undated).
