Overview and metadata sections
Box one contains twentieth-century articles about the lotteries, as well as materials from a 1954 University Library exhibit on the lotteries. Boxes two and three contain eighteenth-century lottery documents about the following five lotteries: the Philadelphia Lottery (1749-1750), the Connecticut Lottery (1753-1754), the New Jersey College Lottery (1761), the New Jersey College Lottery (1763-1764), and the Delaware Lottery (1772-1774). All drawings were held in the locations specified except the New Jersey College Lottery of 1761, which was held in Philadelphia. Lottery materials include account information, broadside lottery announcements, lists of winning tickets and prizes, and actual lottery tickets.
Twentieth-century materials are housed in box one. Boxes two and three contain eighteenth- century lottery documents, organized by lottery and then alphabetically.
A small number of original and microfilmed documents relating to the lotteries (especially the Delaware Lottery) can be found at either the Rare Books Division or the Microform Service Center, both at Firestone Library. Search the online catalog by keywords "Princeton and Lottery," by a specific lottery name, or by using any of the subject lines below to yield descriptions, call numbers, and locations.
The collection was compiled of documents from a 1954 University Library exhibit and gifts from various donors. Accession records exist at Firestone Library for items within folders labeled with an AM accession number.
For preservation reasons, original analog and digital media may not be read or played back in the reading room. Users may visually inspect physical media but may not remove it from its enclosure. All analog audiovisual media must be digitized to preservation-quality standards prior to use. Audiovisual digitization requests are processed by an approved third-party vendor. Please note, the transfer time required can be as little as several weeks to as long as several months and there may be financial costs associated with the process. Requests should be directed through the Ask Us Form.
No appraisal information is available.
