Overview and metadata sections
James M'Clune was a professor of astronomy.
This collection contains a single booklet, written by Professor James M'Clune and dated August 7, 1869. The report provides an overview of Professor M'Clune's trip to Oskaloosa, Iowa, taken in order to view a Solar Eclipse. He was accompanied by Samuel James Gummere, the president of Haverford College, as well as his son. M'Clune describes features of the eclipse, provides physical observations of the sun, relays the reactions of bystanders during the events, and draws comparisons between it and previous eclipses. The final page functions as a brochure for the booklet, featuring an illustrated image of a solar eclipse and the names of those on M'Clune's trip.
