Overview and metadata sections
The Haverford College Emergency Unit scrapbook was organized by the creators into six different sections: Record of Organization Committee, Record of the Committee of Ten, Organization Documents, Record of the Central Board, Record of the Court of Discipline, and Miscellaneous Records. All dated documents in the collection correspond to the year in which the Emergency Unit was formed, 1917. Among the collected documents are meeting minutes from the combined faculty-and-staff Emergency Unit, as well as its subsidiary, the Committee of Ten, comprised entirely of undergraduates; reports and correspondences related to the operations of the Emergency Unit and the four student training sections (Automobile operation and repair work; Ambulance unit and Hospital Drills; Camp construction, sanitation and open-air life; and Manual Labor and Field and Construction Work); photographs of Haverford students participating in various training programs, including a cross-country hike, marching drills, and medic drills; mixed media materials related to the operations of the different training sections, including a list documenting the names of the members and leaders of each training company and sample maps created as part of a map-making exercise.
