Overview and metadata sections

Customs is a year-long program at Haverford College that helps first-year students transition to college life. This is one of the oldest traditions at Haverford, dating back to the mid-1800s, when upperclassmen spontaneously began keeping the peace in Barclay, the College's first dorm, by quieting the rowdy underclassmen and teaching the new students the 'customs' of the College. The Customs program begins with an orientation before classes start.

The collection contains a handbook titled "Everyman's compleat guide to personal happiness and social success at Haverford" for freshmen written by the Customs Committee, Customs Week schedules and programs, a list of Customs Teams members of the academic year 1992-93, and a copy of an email about changes to Customs Program in 2003.
