Elizabeth R. Shoemaker (1809-1855) was born March 5, 1809, in Shoemakertown, Pa., the daughter of Charles and Margaret Shoemaker. She married Abraham Taylor on August 20, 1848, and the couple had three children: Margaret Wood Taylor (1849-1857), Charles S. Taylor (1850-1940), and Sarah Merritt Taylor (1853-1947). Elizabeth Shoemaker Taylor died on October 20, 1855.

This collection is comprised of the single volume recipe book of Elizabeth Shoemaker. The majority of recipes are for baked goods, puddings, and preserves, recipes for salves and other remedies, and tips for cleaning.
