Overview and metadata sections

The Comforts were a Philadelphia-area Quaker family. Howard Comfort (1850-1912) was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on April 21st, 1850, to Edward Comfort and Susan Edge Comfort. On May 16, 1872, Howard Comfort married Susan Wistar, the daughter of Thomas W. Wistar and Priscilla Foulke Wistar. The couple had one son, William Wistar Comfort (1874-1955). Comfort was a Quaker merchant in Philadelphia, and often traveled between Philadelphia and various cities in Great Britain on business during the years 1890-1907. Comfort died in Philadelphi, Pa, on April 12th, 1912, at nearly 62 years old

This collection contains a typed genealogy of the Comfort family, compiled by Anne H. Cresson in 1902, largely based on a family tree prepared by John S. Comfort. It also includes some short biographical sketches of the families, as well as typed notes from Cresson's work.

Presented to the Haverford College Collections by William Wistar Comfort, 1936.
