This collection is comprised of the single volume manuscript of Charlotte Brate's play, "Massacre." The play describes a fictional event in the life of William Penn. It takes place in Germantown, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1683, and describes the white settlers' fear of an "Indian massacre" and misunderstandings between the settlers and the Lenni-Lenape.

"Massacre: A Play" by Charlotte Brate was donated to Special Collections, Haverford College in 1949 by the estate of Rufus M. Jones.
