John "Jack" Flagg Gummere (1901-1988) was born in July, 1901, in Pennsylvania, the son of Henry V. Gummere and Lydia F. Gummere. John F. Gummere graduated from Haverford College in 1922, and then received his Ph.D. in Indo-European languages from the University of Pennsylvania. He married Gladys Wheeler Barnes in 1931. He taught at William Penn Charter School in Philadelphia, and served as headmaster of the school from 1941 to 1968. After his retirement, Gummere taught Latin and English at Haverford and contributed a weekly column, "Words, Etc.," to The Philadelphia Inquirer. He was a long-time member of Haverford College's Board of Managers, and was a founder of the National Association of Independent Schools. John Flagg Gummere died in 1988.
This collection is comprised of two volumes of photograph albums which are largely comprised of the baby photos of John "Jack" Flagg Gummere.
The Jack Gummere photograph albums were donated to Special Collections, Haverford College in 2001 by Mary Jane Small.

Collection Inventory
This volume is largely composed of baby photos of John Flagg Gummere, or "Jack." Included in this volume are two locks of hair.
This volume includes photographs of the Gummere family from the early Samuel Gummere to John Flagg Gummere, especially the family of Henry Volkmar Gummere and his son John Flagg Gummere. Also included baby photos of John "Jack" Gummere, photos of the Gummere family home, and various unidentified family members and other children.
