Families of Friends began to settle in China, Maine, in 1774. They attended distant meetings in Vassalboro or Durham when able. Regular meetings for worship began in China in 1802, under the Vassalboro Monthly Meeting. This group began as the Harlem Monthly Meeting in 1813; the name changed to China Monthly Meeting in 1825. Today, the China Monthly Meeting exists under the Vassalboro Quarterly Meeting and the New England Yearly Meeting.

This collection is comprised of the correspondence between members of the China, Maine Monthly Meeting and Friends in Nova Scotia, and a single volume of meeting minutes for China, Maine Monthly Meeting.
