Abstract:

This baby book covers the life of John Sharpless Klein from his birth on September 9, 1922, though his high school graduation in 1940.

John "Johnnie"/"Johnny" Sharpless Klein was born Saturday the 9th of September, 1922, to Edwin B. and Katharine S. Klein. They lived in Pleasantville, New York, and would spend time in the Pocono Lake Preserve, Pennsylvania; Hawthorne, New York; Rye Beach, New Hampshire; and Haverford, Pennsylvania. John Klein attended Pleasantville Public Schools from 1929 to 1933 (2nd-6th grades). For 7th and 8th grades, he attended Bedford Road School. He attended Pleasantville High School, and from 1938 to 1940, he attended the Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts.

This baby book covers the life of John Sharpless Klein from his birth on September 9, 1922, though his high school graduation in 1940. His mother, Katharine Klein, filled out the pages of the book and also inserted cards and notes from relatives, as well as additional commentary. Throughout the volume there are photographs of John Klein with his immediate family and other extended family members. There are several loose photographs of John Klein and letters from Edwin Klein to John and his siblings throughout the volume. The end of the volume contains report cards, programs from school events, and some newspaper clippings. It appears that towards the end of the volume, Katharine covered some of her notes with images and documents from later in John's childhood. Some interesting contents include various holiday cards from relatives and a spread marking the transition from long to short clothes.
