Robert "Bob" T. Crauder was born in New Castle, Indiana on January 31, 1925, in New Castle, Indiana to Quakers Mary Edna Carson and Harry Raymond Crauder. Bob Crauder received a bachelor's degree from the University of Chicago in 1944 and a masters degree from Wharton School of Business at University of Pennsylvania in 1946. Between 1947-1950, Bob Crauder worked for the American Friends Service Committee (AFSC) Friends Ambulance Unit in China until the political situation became unstable. He married Renee Calm in 1951, and the couple lived all over the world for Bob's work when he worked for the U.S. Agency for International Development in Burma (Myanmar), the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees, in Lebanon, Egypt, and Syria, and in Bangladesh as as a rural credit specialist. He also worked on the Middle East Desk at AFSC, as auditor of AFSC's project accounts in Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, and Thailand, consulted for the World Bank on rural credit in Tanzania, Sudan, and Uganda, and did a financial management study of the two Quaker hospitals in Kenya. In the United States, he worked for West Chester State University, Wilberforce University, and Pendle Hill study center.
Renee and Bob had two children, Bruce Crauder and Elaine Crauderueff, and the couple were active Quakers and were members of the Radnor Meeting, Trenton Meeting, and State College Meeting. He served as volunteer treasurer for Philadelphia Yearly Meeting for ten years, and at the Radnor Meeting, he served on the Finance Committee for almost 20 years, was treasurer for eight years, and represented the Meeting to Philadelphia Yearly Meeting. Bob Crauder passed away in State College, Pennslyvania on February 24, 2015.
