Fritz Eichenberg was a German-American illustrator and educator. His main medium was wood engraving, and his illustrations were concerned with religion, social justice, and nonviolence. He was born in Cologne, Germany but emigrated to the United States in 1933 due to the rise of Nazism. He lived in New York City for most of his life, teaching art and illustrating books, especially works of literature. In 1940 he joined the Religious Society of Friends. He illustrated for Quaker periodicals, as well as progressive Catholic periodicals. He died at his home in Rhode Island in 1990.
