Overview and metadata sections

Esther A. Balderston, a graduate of Wellesley College, became a Quaker missionary teaching the Bible, English and sewing at Friends Girls School, Tokyo, and Press Superintendent of Japan Women's Christian Temperance Union beginning in 1914. She married Thomas E. Jones in 1917.

This collection comprises correspondence, creative works, and ephemera by and about Esther A. Balderston Jones. The collection ranges from 1898 to 1998, and is mostly comprised of business and personal correspondence. The letters were written between 1898 and 1921 back and forth between family members while Jones was traveling in Europe. They document her transportation and experiences abroad. The letters also detail her international missionary endeavors in Germany and Japan. Included in the collection are miscellaneous materials including Jones's own creative works, diary entries and materials, and photographs.

Records are organized into two series: a general file, which contains biographical information and creative works, and a correspondence file.
