Overview and metadata sections
Dr. Charles Morscheck was born on March 13, 1944 in Washington, D.C. He completed a BA in Humanities in 1966 from Michigan State University and an MA in 1971. In 1977, Dr. Morscheck received his Ph. D in History of Art from Bryn Mawr College, following the publication of his dissertation: Relief Sculpture for the Façade of the Certosa di Pavia, 1473-1499. In 1976, Dr. Morscheck became an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Drexel University’s Nesbitt College, now Westphal College, teaching courses on the History of Art and History of Costume courses. In 1977, Dr. Morscheck was promoted to Assistant Professor of Design, adding History of Interior Space and Furnishings to his list of courses. He received tenure in the early 1980s, and continues to teach in the Westphal College of Media Arts and Design.
In 2000, Dr. Morscheck helped create the Great Works Symposium, an interdisciplinary course series covering a wide variety of topics; he served as the Symposium’s director until 2007. Dr. Morscheck regularly conducts independent archival research in Milan, Italy in the history of art and architecture. Dr. Morscheck has been active in both University and College-level faculty governance, serving on such committees as Academic Affairs, Academic Appeals, Curriculum, Tenure Review, Library Advisory and Student Life committees. He served as Chair of Drexel’s Faculty Senate in the mid-1990s. Dr. Morscheck has also served as an advisor for several student organizations, including the Triangle, Drexel’s student newspaper, and the Museum Club.
The Charles Morscheck papers are divided into five series across 12 boxes; Subject files, Name files, Faculty Senate files, Law School files and General Correspondence. These series cover the dates of 1977 to 2008, with the bulk of the material available from 1995 to 2005. Series are arranged alphabetically, with homogenous subjects arranged chronologically. Items within individual folders are arranged chronologically whenever possible. All materials originate from the office of Dr. Charles Morscheck. Academic transcripts and material containing student or faculty social security numbers have been removed from this collection.
The Subject files are available in boxes 1-4, 7 and 11. This series contains a large number of individual subject files covering a large number of activities, organizations and classes which Dr. Morscheck has been a part. Materials in this series include records concerning Drexel University policies, College of Media Arts and Design classes, faculty affairs, college and departmental committees, the Great Works Symposium course series, and certain faculty senate committees. Records concerning Dr. Morscheck’s activities with the Drexel Archives and Special Collections can also be found in this series. At an item level, printed e-mail correspondence represents the majority of the available material, but individual subject folders may contain meeting minutes, student work, committee reports and draft documents. This series covers a period from 1977 to 2007, but individual subject files may only cover a portion of those years.
The Faculty Senate files are available in boxes 5 and 6. This series contains records concerning the activities of the Faculty Senate between 1996 and 2004, with the bulk of the material available from 1996 to 1998. Records in this series are arranged alphabetically by committee name, and chronologically within commitee. The majority of the available folders each cover a specific senate committee meeting. Committees represented in this series include the Senate at-large committee, the Steering committee, and the Strategic Planning committee, as well as Provost/officers meetings. Each folder contains meeting minutes and schedules, Dr. Morscheck’s handwritten notes, and any relevant correspondence, documents or reports.
The Law School files are available in boxes 8, 9 and 10. This series contains records concerning the formation of Drexel University’s Earle Mack School of Law, organized chronologically. The majority of the records in this series are from 2005, and folders containing correspondence are organized chronologically by month. Also included in this series are several studies and collections of data relevant to the creation of the Law School, including initial proposals and budget outlooks.
The Name files are available in box 12, and are organized alphabetically by the last name of the individual in question. Materials in this series are limited almost entirely to printed e-mail correspondence exchanged between Dr. Morscheck and each individual. Certain files, in the case of deceased individuals, contain memorial information. Individuals featured in this series include current and prospective Media Arts and Design faculty, Drexel administrators and staff, University Provosts, and Drexel ex-president Constantine Papadakis. This series covers the years of 1987 to 2008, with the bulk of material between 2000 and 2005. However, many folders contain material from only one year.
General Correspondence materials are available in the last two folders of box 11. This series includes small or brief e-mail correspondence exchanges concerning a variety of subjects, and is arranged chronologically. Materials in this series cover the years of 2004-2005.
