Abstract:

The records of the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life document Drexel’s Greek community from 1967 to present. The records have been arranged into four series: Administration and governing councils; Events; Materials on individual fraternities and sororities; and Recruitment.

Formerly the Office of Greek Life, the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life (FSL) is a part of Drexel University’s Division of Student Life and Administrative Services. The FSL serves the university’s recognized fraternities, sororities, councils, as well as both alumni and undergraduate members. Specifically, FSL offers support to chapters and individual members related to academics, risk management and safety, event planning, chapter management, leadership development, financial management and other areas. Events coordinated by the FSL include Night Out on the Row during New Student Days, Hazing Prevention Awareness Week, Greek Week, Homecoming activities, Welcome Back Week programming including the Multicultural Greek Council Flashback Roller Skating Party and the Kick-off Block Party.

The records of the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life (formerly the Office of Greek Life) provide information on Drexel’s Greek community from 1967 until 2012. The records have been arranged into four series: Administration and governing councils, Events, Materials on individual fraternities and sororities, and Recruitment. The first series, Administration and governing councils, is primarily comprised of the meeting materials of governing and related councils from 1967 until 2007. The bulk of materials are from the Panhellenic Council (the governing body for sororities), and the Greek Relations Board. Also included are records from the Interfraternity Association (the governing body for fraternities), the Multicultural Greek Council (formerly Bi-cultural Council), and the Powelton Village Civic Association. Additional administrative materials include information on behavioral codes, billing, and judicial processes. The second series, Events, includes materials on the events held by Drexel’s fraternities and sororities. Although items range in date from 1971 until 2010, the bulk of items are primarily from 2003 until 2005. A vast majority of records of this series relate to the Greek Week celebration and its preparation. Also included in the series are a number of photographs and slides of various events. Other information on events can also be found in the Administration and governing councils series, the councils naturally planned for or participated in a majority of Greek events. Materials on individual fraternities and sororities are contained in the third series, dating between 1986 and 2012. There is one subseries: videorecordings of Chapter Achievement Plan projects, circa 2006-2008. The fourth and final series consists of recruitment records including flyers, calendars, and brochures; the series also contains policies and documents related to the recruitment process. Related materials are contained in the Panhellenic Council records in the Administration series.
