Dr. Richard R. Gutekunst [1927-2018] was a bacteriologist and dean of Hahnemann Medical College. A U.S. Navy veteran, he served as a pharmacist's mate during World War II. While in the U.S. Naval Reserves, Dr. Gutekunst earned a degree in bacteriology from Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science in 1951, then returned to military service as an commissioned Ensign in the U.S. Navy Medical Service Corps during the Korean War. Dr. Gutekunst retired from the Navy in 1968, and became a professor as well as Dean of the Hahnemann Medical College College of Allied Health Professions. He left Hahnemann in 1980, when he became Dean of the College of Health Related Professions at the University of Florida. Dr. Gutekunst retired in 1995. The collection contains lecture notes for various microbiology courses in the mid 1970s, undergraduate notes from Muhlenberg College, 1947-48, biography, bibliography, and photographs.
