William Terry Taylor, obstetrician, was born in Philadelphia on 6 Mar. 1822. He received am M.D. from the University of Pennsylvania in 1848. Taylor married (1) Harriet H. Mattison (d. 1865) in 1849 and (2) Mrs. Jane Fesmier in 1870. He died in Philadelphia on 2 Mar. 1887. Taylor studied medicine with Wilson Jewell and worked as a drugclerk. After receiving his M.D., he was appointed Physician to the Guardians of the Poor for the Northern Liberties section of the city. His health broke after overwork during the smallpox epidemic of 1871-1872; Taylor then went to Europe to recover. He was a member of the Philadelphia County Medical Society and the Philadelphia Obstetrical Society.
The William T. Taylor correspondence collection contains three items, including a letter to the Medical Examiner, written in 1852 and concerning the birth of triplets; a bibliography, presumably of his published works; and a statement of defense re James J. Levick's reinstatement to the Philadelphia County Medical Society.
This collection was discovered during a survey in the summer and fall of 2015. It was processed in the summer of 2018.
