Joseph Bedford VanderVeer, Philadelphia, Pa., cardiologist, was born in Cedar Falls, Iowa, 31 March 1905. He married Ethel Short, 1930. After he received an M.D. from the University of Iowa Medical School in 1929, VanderVeer held an internship at Montreal General Hospital, then a residency at Lakeside Hospital, Cleveland, Ohio. He became associated with Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia and was chief of caridology from 1946 to 1970. He was also on the cardiology staff of Bryn Mawr Hospital, 1952-1966, and held professorships in clinical medicine in the University of Pennsylvania's School of Medicine. Joseph B. VanderVeer became a Fellow of the College of Physicians of Philadelphia in 1937.
Letters, 1942 Feb. 15-1944 Aug. 13, describing experiences and daily life as physician in U.S. Army 52nd Evacuation Hospital and 364th Station Hospital, stationed in the Pacific during World War II.
