Overview and metadata sections

Josephine Case was the designer/manager for a variety of performances at Bryn Mawr and Haverford Colleges. She graduated from Bryn Mawr in 1954 with a degree in History. She married Nathaniel Schnurman, a Newark news reporter, in 1957. Case studied and wrote about late medieval Bibles and their uses.

The Josephine (Schnurman) Case scrapbook is comprised of a two-volume scrapbook created by Josephine Case, class of 1954. The scrapbooks, which cover 1950-1954, contains mostly materials about theatrical and musical performances at Bryn Mawr College and beyond. There is also a great amount of personal correspondence and cards, as well as some casual photographs in good condition.

The collection is comprised of a two-volume scrapbook. The first volume highlights material from 1950-52, while the second volume is composed of material from 1952-54.

Highlights of the first volume include photos of the class of '52's play "As you Swipe It"; handwritten plans for set and stage management of 1951 Arts Night, with program; 3 photos of a Bi-Co production of Othello, several photos from "The Shoemaker's Prodigious wife", with program; playbill from the Cort Theater: Katherine Hepburn in "As You Like It"; quiz (with corrected answers) on the rules and regulations of dorm and social life; and Case's sign-out sheet from Rockefeller. The second volume highlights include 3 photos from '54's "Opening Soon" with program; 2 photos from "The Boy with a Cart"; and 2 photos from '57's "Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness"; playbills from New York City theaters 1952-54, playbills from BMC Class Plays, BMC/Haverford College Drama performances, and BMC/HC musical performances, 1952-54.

This scrapbook is primarily a record of Case's involvement (generally as a stage manager) with both Bryn Mawr and bi-college theatrical productions and of her interest in the theater in general. Case's scrapbook does not provide a feeling for the typical BMC experience in the early 1950s, but it does provide a rather interesting record of a personality and of one kind of extracurricular life.
