Abstract:

The collection comprises architectural drawings, photographic materials and other records documenting over 200 buildings and projects designed between 1895-1958 by the architectural firm of Day and Klauder or by their predecessor or successor firms. Predecessor firms represented in the collection are Frank Miles Day and Brother; and Day Brothers and Klauder. Successor firms are Charles Z. Klauder, architect; Office of Charles Z.Klauder; and Trautwein and Howard, architects. Projects include private commissions, public buildings, and the firm's extensive work for collegiate institutions.

Projects with the most extensive holdings include the NYU Art Conservation Center, Friends Neighborhood Guild House (1961-1965), Philadelphia Yearly Meeting Friends Center Complex (1971-1979), and the Fred W. George Pohl negatives and prints, circa 1955-1986 (inclusive)

Abstract:

George Pohl, Jr. (1931-2023) was a self-taught photographer who lived and worked in Spain and Philadelphia, Pa. from the 1950s to the mid-1970s. He documented the work and student life at the University of Pennsylvania's Graduate School of Fine Arts, as well as the independent work of faculty, architects Louis Kahn and Robert Venturi, among others. He photographed the early years of Penn's Institute of Contemporary Art. Pohl's personal photography mainly documents the people and places in Philadelphia, especially the Fairmount and Spring Garden neighborhoods. The George Pohl negatives and prints include 35mm black and white photographic negatives, contact sheets, 35mm color slides and photographic prints, dating from about 1955 to 1975.

The Archive of Prof. Svi Rin and Shifra Rin contains uncataloged offprints from the field of Semitic studies, dating from 1925-1971.

Abstract:

Charles Joseph (1847-1927) and Mary M. Cohen (1954-1911) were siblings and philanthropists, who were involved in organizations such as Congregation Mikveh Israel, Gratz College, and the Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce. Mary was a founder of the National Council of Jewish Women. The Charles and Mary Cohen Collection consists of newspaper clippings, scrapbooks, Charles' diary, correspondence, and various writings, dating from 1846 to 1920.

Abstract:

Sabato Morais (1823-1897) was the founder of the Jewish Theological Seminary, professor of Biblical Exegesis at Maimonides College and the Jewish Theological Seminary, and a hazan for Congregation Mikveh Israel in Philadelphia. The Sabato Morais Collection consists of correspondence, literary works, financial and legal records, printed items, and photocopies of microfilm, dating from 1845 to 1897.
