Abstract:

Lyman W. Riley was the rare book bibliographer of Van Pelt Library's original Cataloging and Special Collections center. Riley authored Aristotle Texts and Commentaries to 1700 in the University of Pennsylvania Library, the bibliography referencing all of the early prints, summaries, paraphrases and translations of Aristotle's works at the University of Pennsylvania created prior to 1700. This collection includes the typescripts of and later supplements to Lyman W. Riley's bibliography of Aristotle works.

Adelaide B. Snyder (1881-1962) was a director and producer in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, who worked most notably at the Little Theatre of Philadelphia, now known as the Plays and Players Theatre. This collection contains her director's copy of The Beautiful People, a play written by William Saroyan and published in 1941. This copy is heavily annotated and includes extensive stage directions and other director's notes.

The collection includes three drafts of the work.

Thompson Westcott scrapbooks of Charles Durang's history of Philadelphia theater between the years 1749 and 1855, 1868 (inclusive)

Abstract:

A native of Philadelphia, Thompson Westcott (1820-1888) was one of the city's leading journalists and historians of his generation. Westcott's scrapbooks consist of the complete series of the 267 chapters of Charles Durang's history of theater in Philadelphia between the years 1749 and 1855, published as weekly installments in the Sunday Dispatch from 1854 to 1863. Including page numbers, indexes, and lists of illustrations, the six volumes (available to be viewed online) are interleaved with images of theaters and portraits of famous actors and artists, as well as with personal correspondence, playbills, and additional clippings on theatrical subject.
