Dorothy Swaine Thomas Papers, 1929-1977 (inclusive)

Abstract:
Dorothy Thomas was appointed a research professor of sociology at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 1948, and was the first female professor in the Wharton School. While at the University, she was a co-director of the Study of Population Redistribution and Economic Growth from 1952 to 1959, research director of the Population Studies Center from 1959 to 1970, and co-director of Population Studies Center from 1964 to 1970. The Dorothy Swaine Thomas Papers primarily document her professional career in the fields of sociology and demography.

Abstract:
Harry M. Martin attended the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine, and received his doctorate in 1916. Martin served on the faculty of the University from 1931 to 1934 as Assistant Professor of Veterinary Pathology and Parasitology, from 1934 to 1943 as Associate Professor, and from 1943 to 1962 as Professor. The papers of Harry Martin reflect the range of his work at the University as well as his research efforts in animal parasitology.

Alfred Bendiner Papers, 1921-1970 (inclusive)

Abstract:
Alfred Bendiner received both a bachelor of architecture degree in 1922 and a master's degree in 1927 from the University of Pennsylvania. In 1937, when he accompanied the University Museum's archeological expedition to Tepe Gawra and Khafaji, Iraq, Bendiner's task was to draw architectural blueprints of these sites. He was also architect to the university's Tikal-Tikal archeological expedition to Guatamala in 1960. These papers include Alfred Bendiner's published articles and his drawings (originals and reproductions) done for publications by his class and by the University of Pennsylvania.

Edgar Meck Dilley Papers, ca. 1895 - ca. 1960 (inclusive)

Abstract:
Edgar Meck Dilley attended the University of Pennsylvania from 1893 to 1895. While at Penn, Dilley studied architecture and was an active member of the Glee Club. As a sophomore, he composed the lyrics to the University's alma mater "Hail, Pennsylvania" and encouraged William J. Goeckel and Harry E. Westervelt to write "The Red and Blue," the alma mater more commonly sung today. This small collection consists primarily of printed and published works by Edgar Meck Dilley, including poetry, short stories, novels, the script of an operetta, and the lyrics of "The Red and Blue".
