Abstract:: This scrapbook contains Depression-era advertisements that were created for a variety of goods and industries including, but not limited to, automobiles, banks and safes, clothing and shoes, foods, fuels (gasoline and coal and coke), home improvement, insurance, medicines and pharmaceuticals, printing and engraving, stationery, and train travel. Included are political ads, ads recruiting United States Marines, and ads promoting the value of the the Boy Scouts and the YMCA. The bulk of the ads are from the United States, but there are four from New Zealand.

Doshia Mae and William M. Blackmon photograph collection, 1890-1979 (inclusive) 1910-1950 (bulk)

Abstract:: The Doshia Mae and William M. Blackmon photograph collection provides a look at a Black family that is representative of the experience in American history known as the Great Migration. It offers visual documentation of Doshia Mae and William's lives, along with their friends and family, spanning both older and younger generations, beginning in Mississippi, migrating to Tennessee around 1940, and finally moving to Los Angeles, California in 1946. The photographs span in date from approximately the late nineteenth century to 1970, but the majority are from about 1920 to 1950. Most photographs have little or no identifying information, but inference and other clues help provide some context.

Abstract:: Elizabeth Fee (1946-2018) was a professor, historian, and leading figure in the history of science, medicine, and public health during the late 20th and early 21st centuries. The Elizabeth Fee papers date from circa 1920-2018 (bulk 1946-2018) and primarily consist of correspondence, documents, and ephemera relating to Fee's professional life, work, writings, and research. Documents, correspondence, and ephemera from her early life and her personal diaries are also well represented.

Abstract:: Edward Parker Read (1868-1944) was a Black entrepreneur who mainly sold cure-alls. He also marketed himself as an extremely educated and successful man, and may have written several books and engaged in many other industries including publishing, insurance, financial, charitable, real estate and medical. This collection contains both personal materials relating to his wife Allie (1880-1965) as well as financial documents, advertisements, broadsides and correspondence relating to his many business endeavors.

Abstract:: Rev. Dr. Edmund Simon Lorenz was an American pastor, hymnist and composer who founded the Lorenz Publishing Company in 1890. The Lorenz and Zehring family papers documents the descendants and history of these families. Materials comprise: photographs, scrapbooks, correspondence, music, printed materials, some audiovisual, poems, plays, report cards, minutes, clippings, diaries, certificates, genealogy research and family histories.

Majority of the photographs are either portraits or groups shots of the family with subjects ranging from infants and toddlers to elders.

Descendants include: merchants, lawyers, diplomats, authors, musicians, soldiers, congressmen and a signer to the Declaration of Independence. The Hopkinson family papers comprise original documents as well as reproductions of: biographical and genealogical research, clippings, certificates, correspondence, diaries, indexes, wills and estate documents, photographs, sheet music, school and birth records, and report cards. Orignal materials primarily document the life and career of Edward Hopkinson Jr. (1885-1966).
