Wistar Family papers, 1861-1950 (inclusive) 1861-1900 (bulk)

Abstract:: This collection contains letters and cards exchanged between various family members, including Elizabeth (Bettina) Vaux Wistar, Mary Emlen Wistar, and Frederic Vaux Wistar. Many of the letters were sent from Europe between 1893 and 1894. There is also an assortment of financial and legal papers. The section "Travel and Sightseeing Materials" is particularly noteworthy. It contains a journal written by Emma F. Wistar in which she recounts her 1866 trip to Niagara Falls, making special note of botanical specimens, including dried plant and flower samples. Additionally, there is a brief account by B.V. Wistar about his experience at the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago in 1893. The collection contains formal photographs taken by Philadelphia photography studios.

Free Produce Association of Friends of Philadelphia Yearly Meeting, 1845-1852

Abstract:: The Free Produce Assocation of Friends of Philadelphia Yearly Meeting was a Quaker organization, founded in 1845 in Philadelphia, PA. The free produce association was a boycott movement against "produce," anything produced by slave labor. This collection contains the minutes from 1845 - 1852, from the Free Produce Association of the Friends of Philadelphia Yearly Meeting. The minutes contain finance reports, nominations for officiers, and reports from various committees, including reports from a committee delegated to be in correspondence with Quakers in England doing similar work.

John Woolman Memorial Association records, 1915-1937

Abstract:: The John Woolman Memorial Association was founded in 1915 by Amelia Mott Gummere. It operates out of a historic house in Mount Holly, New Jersey, where John Woolman's family lived, and where their apple orchard once existed. According to its by-laws, its purpose was "the preservation of John Woolman's house [...], for the purpose of social service in the spirit of John Woolman and for antiquarian interest." It is still a working organization today. This collection contains one volume of records, mostly minutes from the John Woolman Memorial Association. It spans from its start in 1915, finishing with dedication to the death of Amelia Mott Gummere, founder of the Association, in 1937.

Abstract:: This collection is comprised of the single volume account book of Josiah Philbrook. A note on the inside cover reads: "This Book belongs to South China Mechanics Association." The first section is organized by two columns: Expenditures and Receipts. The remainder of the volume is organized alphabetically by names of individuals.

Lebanon Hospital for Mental Diseases records, 1900-1940 (inclusive) 1922-1932 (bulk)

Abstract:: The Lebanon Hospital for Mental Diseases of Syria (now Lebanon) was founded in 1898 by Theophilus Waldmeier, who spent more than 40 years in Abyssinia and Syria in educational missionary work.The American Committee was founded in 1897 by Waldemier "for the purpose of interesting Americans in this cherished plan for support of this hospital" (minutes, November 15, 1923). This was one of many committees he helped to form around the world for supporting the hospital.This collection contains one bound volume of minutes and tipped in reports, and a collection of related materials of loose papers.
