The collection includes minutes (1966-1973), correspondence (1965-1978), material on Clergy and Laity Concerned's programs and projects, Clergy and Laity Concerned (CALC) publications and posters, press releases, clippings, photographs, and files on local CALC groups, particularly the Metropolitan Chicago Chapter (1969-1981). Also included are files of the newspaper American Report (1970-1974) and material relating to Help Unsell the War, a mass media campaign in 1971-1972. David Cortright is an anuthor and antimilitarist. He was a co-founder of GI's United Against the War in Vietnam. After the early 1970s Cortright led several peace organizations, including SANE, Inc. and SANE/FREEZE. Cortright current serves as president of the Fourth Freedom Forum [ca. 1996 - date].

Dorothy Detzer Papers, 1913-1981 (inclusive)

Abstract:
Dorothy Detzer was a peace activist, writer, and lobbyist. She served as the National Executive Secretary of the U.S. Section of the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom, 1924-1946.. Detzer influenced a Congressional investigation of the munitions industry, 1934-1936, and later wrote the book Appointment on the Hill, 1948, describing her two decades in Washington, D.C.

Danilo Dolci Papers, 1947-1987 (inclusive)

Abstract:
Danilo Dolci was born in Sesana on June 28,1924. He was a devout Catholic, and decided that instead of launching a professional career, he would work for a time with a priest, who had opened an orphanage for 3000 abandoned children after World War II. At age 28 Dolci moved to Sicily, working to overcome the poverty and violence. One technique he used was the "strike in reverse," which initiated unauthorized public works projects for the poor. Dolci became known throughout the world as the "Sicilian Gandhi" because of his efforts to create change nonviolently, and was nominated twice for the Nobel Peace Prize. Dolci died on December 30, 1997 from heart failure.

The Federal Council of Churches organized its Committee on the Conscientious Objector under its Department of International Justice and Goodwill in 1941. The Committee was interested in all aspects of conscientious objection, especially religious life in Civilian Public Service camps. Among the Committee's projects was the organizing of a program of visitation to CPS camps.

Abstract:
Edward Wyatt Evans (1882-1976) was a lifelong member of the Germantown (Pennsylvania) Monthly Meeting and was active in the Friends Peace Committee of Philadelphia Yearly Meeting. Evans was instrumental in the founding of the Fellowship of Reconciliation (Fellowship of Reconcilation), and was the executive secretary from 1916-1919. During the 1920s, he was also active in educational and peace programs of the Society of Friends.

Abstract:
Abraham Egnal was a former teacher of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was very active in the Philadelphia area peace movement. He received his B.S. and M.A. degrees in economics from the University of Pennsylvania. Egnal organized many peace rallies and marches. He was the chairman of the West Philadelphia-Main Line Committee of the National Committee for a Sane Nuclear Policy, the Greater Philadelphia Council, and the Philadelphia Mobilization Committee in 1967.
