Abstract:: This 46-item collection (1972-2017, undated) consists of documents and artifacts identified by Stuart Teacher as significant to the history of Running Press. Founded by brothers Stuart and Lawrence Teacher in Philadelphia in 1972, Running Press grew to be one of the most successful independent publishers in the nation by the mid-1980s. This collection represents, in the words of Stuart Teacher, "two parallel themes" in the company's history: a creativity-centric publishing philosophy and a strong, collaborative employee culture.

"Among the Red Indians", Undated.

Abstract:: Henry Stanley Newman's "Among the Red Indians" provides a narrative of Newman's travels among Native Americans west of the Mississippi River in 1889. The manuscript was prepared for Mary S. Kimber when she was proposing to write a book on the work that American Friends did with indigenous peoples, which was published in 1917 and entitled "Friends and the Indians." Newman's manuscript was never published. The manuscript describes the various settlements that Newman and his wife visited on their travels, the nations they interacted ith, including the Muscogee, and the landscape.

"Growing Up Quaker", Undated.

Abstract:: Katherine Paxson's family history/memoir, entitled "Growing Up Quaker," includes vignettes describing various events in Paxson's life, which she recorded to pass on to her family members. Includes biographical entries for her grandfathers, Isaac H. Thompson and Thomas E. Anderson; her grandmothers, Anne W. Hutton Thompson and Nancy Almina Anderson; her father, I. Walter Thompson; and her sister, Ruth Thompson Davidson. Vignettes describe Paxson's "Early Years," "Summer Days," "Twelfth Street Friends Meeting," her mother's influence in her life, "Visiting Grandpa and Grandma in N.C.," "Ecumenical Outreach," and "Westtown School."
