Abstract:: The Taylor and Nicholson family papers contain the records of these two families from the late-nineteenth to mid-twentieth centuries. The two focal points of this collection are William Nicholson Taylor (1882-1945), and his mother, Rebecca Morgan Nicholson Taylor (1857-1944). William graduated from Harvard in 1903 and afterwards spent considerable time abroad studying architecture. He also served as an officer in the United States Military from 1916 to 1917, and worked in diplomacy after the war. Rebecca was a noted writer and poet during this time period. The strength of this collection is the collected materials related to William's time in the military, as well as his sketchbooks related to architecture and Harvard. Researchers interested in the works of Rebecca Morgan Nicholson Taylor or Quaker women, should also consult Rebecca's notebook and correspondence. There is extensive correspondence between the various members of these two families from the 1880s to 1940s.

Abstract:: The scrapbook of Isaac Shoemaker includes portraits of Shoemaker's family, including Charles Shoemaker, Elizabeth Robeson, Susan Wood, Hannah Taylor, Abraham M. Taylor, George Washington, Daniel Wheeler, and Robert Morton. Also includes sketches of meeting houses, plants found on his travels, and landscapes, including landscapes of South Carolina, Louisiana, western prairies, Spanish Missions in Texas, Pennsylvania, and Yosemite.

Abstract:: The Allinson family scrapbook is largely comprised of clippings on poetry, temperance, prison reform, reform for juvenile delinquents, and anti-slavery. Many of the anti-slavery clippings discuss the possibility of using Jamaica as a "home for colored emigrants." The end of the volume includes 12 pages of signatures. The volume also includes an obituary for Samuel Allinson.

Abstract:: Elizabeth U. Willis's scrapbook includes photos and clippings about her and Sarah F. Underhill, photos of the Underhill family, clippings, illustrations, and portraits of Quakers, meeting houses, and Quaker birthplaces. Quaker autographs and letters are included as well. Letter writers include Samuel Fothergill, Anne Mott, David Sands, William Allinson, William Dillywn, William Rickman, J. Stephenson, George Jones, Lindley Murray, Richard Mott, and John Barrow. Confederate money, fractional currency, colonial money, excerpts of prayers and testimonies, and embroidery and cross stitch samples are also included.

Purdie includes clippings of his writing, including a series of essays on "Quakerism in Dixie," a series entitled "Journal of a Conscript," and a series entitled "For the Pioneer, Sojourn in the Land of Secession after a Collapsed Rebellion." The clippings are pasted into the Back Creek Monthly Meeting school attendance record books.
