Abstract:
Harvey Finkle (born March 28, 1934) is a self-taught documentary photographer who has documented the social, economic, cultural, and political issues in the city of Philadelphia and across the globe. Finkle's work largely focuses on marginalized communities, including low income and homeless families, homeless veterans, refugees, immigrants, and the disabled, to name only a few. This collection, dating from 1968 to 2019, contains a majority of Finkle's five-decade-long oeuvre, in various formats including prints, contact sheets, negatives, slides, research, interview transcripts, and publications. As a whole, this collection provides documentation of activism in Philadelphia and focuses on social injustices in the city, the country, and the world.

Historical Society of the Phoenixville Area photograph and film collection, circa 1880-2013

Abstract:
Phoenixville, which was incorporated as a borough in 1849 in Chester County, Pennsylvania, evolved from an early 18th century village. The history of the town largely mirrored the history of the Phoenix Iron Company which became hugely successful in the mid-19th century with the advent of the railroad. The Historical Society of the Phoenixville Area photograph and film collection, circa 1880-2013, consists primarily of photographic prints, with some slides, picture postcards, film negatives, photograph albums, a few glass plate negatives, and 16mm film reels that document various aspects of Phoenixville's history.

Thomas Waldman research collection on Nadar, 1972-2018 (inclusive)

Abstract:
Thomas G. Waldman (1938-2018) was a scholar of the history of Medieval France and an associate professor of history at the University of Pennsylvania. He envisioned a book and exhibit on photographer Felix Nadar's autograph album, called "Nadar and His World," that would bring together the subjects of Nadar's photographs, their autographs, and biographical sketches. While the project was not completed, Waldman's research is available through this collection.

J. Patrick and Patricia A. Kennedy collection of Arthur Tress photographs, 1964-2015 (inclusive)

Abstract:
Arthur Tress (born 1940) is an American photographer and collector of Japanese illustrated books and prints. This collection contains photographic prints from fourteen of Tress's series. His style has often been described as "staged surrealism" but his body of work includes a diverse range of approaches. Included in the collection are black and white and color prints, the majority of which were taken in New York City (including Staten Island, Coney Island, the Bronx, Brooklyn, and Manhattan), San Francisco, and San Luis Obispo, California, dating from 1967 to 2015.
