Photographs, artifacts and files related to the Center’s projects, including The Nightingale’s Song and RN: The Past, Present, and Future of the Nursing Uniform, are incorporated.

Abstract:
This collection contains materials documenting the development of nursing and nurse alumni groups at institutions founded by Jewish benevolent groups and organizations in Philadelphia from the 1890s through the 1990s. The historical material includes minutes, reports, administrative files, artifacts, and photographs depicting nursing and nurse education. These materials primarily concern three establishments which were merged to form the Albert Einstein Medical Center in 1952: the Jewish Hospital, established 1867; the Mt. Sinai Hospital, established in 1905; and the Northern Liberties Hospital established in 1920. (It should be noted that there are no significant records of the Northern Liberties Hospital in this collection.)

Brunner, author and educator, is a native Pennsylvanian who is known nationally and internationally for her contributions to nursing practice, particularly in the area of medical surgical nursing. She is perhaps best known for writing Textbook of Medical and Surgical Nursing and The Lippincott Manual of Nursing Practice. This collection documents Brunner's professional nursing and writing experience and her association and membership with various institutions she attended or served. Also included are her articles, awards and photographs.
