Abstract:
George Willoughby (December 9, 1914 - January 5, 2010) and Lillian Willoughby (c. 1916 - January 15, 2009) were Quaker activists who took part in nonviolent protests against war, conducted nonviolence trainings in India and other countries, and advocated for preservation of land in New Jersey and elsewhere.

Abstract:
The Washington Peace Center was formed in 1963 upon the dissolution of the Peace Action Center of Washington, D.C. The organization seeks to educate the public on peace issues through youth programs, conscientious objector/draft counseling, film screenings, speakers, workshops on peace topics, discussions, and the publication of a newsletter. Its mission statement as of 2013 includes : "The Washington Peace Center is an anti-racist, grassroots, multi-issue organization working for peace, justice, and nonviolent social change in the metropolitan Washington DC area."

Freeze Voter Records, 1983-1988 (inclusive)

Abstract:
In 1983, supporters of the nuclear freeze founded Freeze Voter, an independent Political Action Committee (PAC). In response to the growing threat of nuclear war and the proliferation of nuclear weapons, the PAC's main goal was to "elect a President and Congress who will enact a nuclear weapons Freeze between the U.S. and the U.S.S.R. The Committee [will] achieve this goal through the electoral process." The organization worked on the grass-roots level to identify supporters of a nuclear freeze and encourage them to vote for pro-freeze candidates. By 1984 over $3 million had been raised and Freeze Voter was the 13 largest non0union, non-corporate PAC in the U.S. By 1988, with the ending of the Cold War, the Freeze Voter board decide to close down the organization. Remaining assets were turned over to the Professionals' Coalition for Nuclear Arms Control (which operated until 1992).

Abstract:
Alice Wiser was a Quaker and had trained as a social worker and psychological counselor. She dedicated the last ten to fifteen years of her life to both peace and women's rights. Wiser was instrumental in organizing the peace tent for the second United Nations Conference on Women held in Nairobi, Kenya in 1985. After the conference Wiser continued to organize around these issues, traveling around the world to interview women and talk about peace. Wiser died from breast cancer in 1995.

Topsfield Foundation Records, 1983-1997 (bulk)

Abstract:
The Topsfield Foundation was founded by Paul J.Aicher in 1982. Aicher, a former engineer later turned philanthropist created a Foundation to aid grassroots citizens' groups in working against nuclear proliferation. In 1984 the Foundation began publishing the state-by-state Grassroots Peace Directories to provide networking information for these organizations and the larger peace movement. In the mid-1980s Aicher created two additional projects: ACCESS, a security information service based in Washington, D.C., to further the exchange of information and viewpoints on international affairs and conflict transformation; and helped form OPTIONS to improve and deepen the debate over security policy and to increase public participation in policy formation. In the 1990s the Topsfield Foundation changed its focus to community dialogue and community building through grassroots organizations. In 2004 the Topsfield Foundation was renamed as the Paul J. Nuclear Resister Records, 1980- (bulk)

Abstract:
In 1980, Jack and Felice Cohen-Joppa became co-coordinators of the National No-Nukes Prison Support Collective, which educated about peace issues and advocate for imprisoned anti-nuclear activists. The Cohen-Joppas also published The Nuclear Resister newsletter as an essential element of this work. In 1988 the organization changed its name to The Nuclear Resister. The function of the Nuclear Resister was to provide comprehensive reporting on arrests for anti-nuclear civil resistance in the United States. There was an emphasis on providing support for the women and men jailed for these actions. In 1990 reporting coverage was expanded to include anti-war arrests in North America, plus overseas anti-nuclear and anti-war resistance with the same emphasis on prisoner support. While the principal effort continues to be publication of the newsletter, supporters also participate in anti-nuclear resistance through public speaking, writing for other publications and websites, organizing...(see more)
