Abstract:: The Quaker families of Jones and Cadbury were interrelated with many other Quaker families in the United States and England. This collection provides a rich source of genealogical and historical information, not only on the Jones and Cadbury families, and especially Mary Hoxie Jones (1904-2003) and Emma Cadbury Jr. (1875-1965), but also, significantly, on the Warder family, as well as the Bartram, Brown, Carter, Foulke, Kaighn, Lowry, Mennell, Pearsall, Shinn, and Shipley families.

Abstract:: Albert Vann Fowler (1904-1968) and Helen Wose Fowler (1907-1968), married to each other in 1937, were poets, freelance writers, and managing editors of the literary periodical, Approach. They also founded Ahab Press in Rosemont, Pa. Albert V. Fowler was a Quaker. This collection is primarily composed of literary manuscripts and publications. Included are materials on Scylla the Beautiful, Landcastle, Two Trends in Modern Quaker Thought, The Fish God, as well as numerous lesser works. Also contains information on War and Civilization, edited by Albert V. Fowler, Approach magazine, and correspondence with Anne G. Sneller, S. Stansfield and Virginia Sargent, Helen Morgan Brooks, and their only child, Albert W. Fowler.

Abstract:: A Quaker poet and book reviewer, Martha Shepard Lippincott (1867-1949) was a birthright and life-long member of Moorestown Monthly Meeting, New Jersey. She graduated from Swarthmore College in 1889 and supported herself as a writer; many of her poems were published in women's, Christian, and local papers. The wide ranging themes include war and peace, temperance, nature, and love. The collection contains her manuscript poetry arranged chronologically and a small amount of her prose and miscellaneous papers.

Abstract:: Pearl Stribling, born Elizabeth Pearl Stribling was born July 28, 1883 in Iowa. Stribling was the daughter of Rev. John W. and Emeline Horton Stribling and was a lifelong Friend. Pearl lived most of her life in Earlham, Iowa. Pearl became bedridden in 1901 at the age of 18 but maintaned a large circles of friends, many of them Friends. She passed away November 6, 1932 in Des Moines, Iowa. Collection consists of four scrapbooks created by Pearl Stribling based around Quakers. The scrapbooks includes newspaper clippings, articles from The American Friend, poems, and pictures.

Abstract:: The collection contains papers of Mira Sharpless Townsend, a major Quaker social activist and reformer in Philadelphia. Mira Sharpless Townsend (1798-1859) was born in Philadelphia, attended Friends Select School, and in 1828 married Samuel Townsend (1800-1887). He was a member of Philadelphia Monthly Meeting by whom she had six children, only two surviving to adulthood: Emily Sharpless Townsend who married Powell Stackhouse and Clara Gordon Townsend, married William Penn Troth. During the 1840's, Mira Townsend became an active and vocal social activist who wrote and published a variety of poetry and articles which reflected her strong views regarding women, slavery, temperance and capital punishment. She also was the driving force behind the founding of the Rosine Association.
