Abstract:: Anthony Nicholas Brady Garvan came to the University of Pennsylvania in 1950 as a Fellow in American Civilization. He was appointed Assistant Professor in American Civilization in 1951, and in 1960 was appointed the first Professor in American Civilization and Department Chair at the University of Pennsylvania. The Anthony Nicholas Brady Garvan Papers primarily document the professional and academic activities of Garvan, with the addition of a small grouping of personal papers relating to his family and interests in hunting and travel.

Hui-lin Li Papers, 1831-2002 (inclusive)

Abstract:: Hui-lin Li was educated at Soochow University and Yenching University in China and received his PhD in biology from Harvard University in 1942. After holding a number of research fellowship positions in both the United States and Taiwan, he came to the University of Pennsylvania as a research associate in 1952 and became a faculty member in the field of botany in 1963. The collections documents the professional career and life of Dr. Li as a professor of botany and researcher.

Abstract:: Pennguinettes was organized in 1946 with eight woman students who swam once a year to entertain visitors to campus on High School Day. In 1953, it became an official athletic society under the auspices of the Women's Physical Education Department and the Women's Athletic Association. This small collection documents the history and development of Penn's women society specialized in synchronized swimming.

After earning a B.S. in education from Penn, Ruth Branning went to work for The Philadelphia Inquirer. The Ruth Branning Molloy Papers mostly document Mrs. Molloy's life in West Philadelphia and her association with her alma mater, the University of Pennsylvania.
