Abstract:: Herman Teerink (1880-1961) was a Dutch scholar who studied the Irish satirist, Jonathan Swift (1667-1745). This collection contains Teerink's manuscript notes for the revised edition of his 1937, A Bibliography of the Writings in Prose and Verse of Jonathan Swift. The revised edition of this book was published in 1963, after Teerink's death, and was titled, A Bibliography for the Writings of Jonathan Swift.

Abstract:: Vincas Maciunas (1909-2003) was a Lithuanian-born author and specialist in Lithuanian literature. Second Lancers photograph album, 1909-1913 (inclusive)

Abstract:: The Second Lancers, established in 1809 by William Linnaeus Gardner (1770-1835), was a cavalry regiment in the British Indian Army. It is probable that the creator of this album was a British or Indian officer who served with the Second Lancers between 1909 and 1913. For the most part, military life is not documented--instead the volume consists of formal portraits of British and Indian soldiers; candid photographs of soldiers; portraits of horses; and photographs of a trip to England, equine sports in India (including racing and polo), and a trip to Delhi for the Delhi Durbar held in December 1911 to commemorate the coronation of King George V and Queen Mary as Emperor and Empress of India.

Abstract:: Albert E. Clattenburg, Jr. (1906-1987) was an official and a diplomat with the United States State Department who was involved in the revisions of the Geneva Convention from 1947 to 1949. This collection contains eighteen bound volumes of materials documenting Clattenburg's involvement in the International Red Cross Conferences relating to the Geneva Conventions. While most of the material is printed and was clearly disseminated to all members of committees and delegations, these are Clattenburg's working copies of minutes, reports, and amendments.

Abstract:: Brandt & Brandt Literary Agents, Inc. has been in business since 1913 and still operates today in New York City, as Brandt & Hochman Literary Agents, Inc. The three typescripts in this collection are by authors under contract at Brandt & Brandt: George Harmon Coxe (1901-1984), an American writer of crime fiction (The Crimson Clue); Emily Hahn (1905-1997), an American journalist and author(Love Conquers Nothing: A Glandular History of Civilization); and Josephine Lawrence (1889–1978), an American novelist, journalist, and children's author (Song in the Night). The books represented as typescripts here in this collection were all published in 1952.

Abstract:: Dr. Chava Weissler has been the Philip and Muriel Berman Professor of Jewish Civilization in the Religion Studies Department of Lehigh University since 1988. Her areas of interest are women in Jewish history, Jewish folklore, classical Jewish texts, and Jewish and American popular religion. This collection, dating from 1982 to 1999, contains writings by Dr. Weissler, as well as her personal notes and research documents. The bulk of the materials document the research and writing of Dr. Weissler's first book, Voices of the Matriarchs: Listening to the Prayers of Early Modern Jewish Women, published in 1998.

Abstract:: Edwin William Pugh (1874-1930), an author known for his works in the style of "the British Cockney School," frequently corresponded with his literary agent, Charles Francis Cazenove (1870-1915). These letters, dating between 1903 and 1915, represent a period of decline in Pugh's literary career; and the letters, postcards, telegraphs, and telegrams in the collection relate not only to the logistics behind the creation and publication of Pugh's fiction, but also to the author's personal struggles, including poverty and poor health.

Abstract:: Georgij Sanji Zagadinow (1925-1999) was a Kalmyk immigrant to Philadelphia who spent much of his life working on a Kalmyk-English dictionary. Abstract:: Paul Eldridge (1888-1982) was an American poet, novelist, essayist, short story writer, and teacher. Most prolific in the 1940s, Eldridge's writing focused on issues of World War II, the Israeli-Palestine conflict, and Zionist and Jewish issues more generally. This collection consists of manuscripts, typescripts, and reprographic copies of Eldridge's poems, stories, and essays; scrapbooks of clippings related to Eldridge's writing and other activities; dustjackets; photographs; issues of newspapers and periodicals in which his columns appeared; and correspondence related to Eldridge's writing and career.

A gift by McCredy, this scrapbook consists of a collection of about 750 playbills and programs from Philadelphia and New York City, arranged in chronological order and pasted onto a volume of more than 200 pages.

Carolina Playmakers collection of playbills and programs, 1918-1953 (inclusive)

Abstract:: The Carolina Playmakers was the theatrical company in residence at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, from 1918 to 1976, when it was succeeded by the PlayMakers Repertory Company. Although they often staged classic and contemporary plays, the Playmakers specialized in the writing and production of folk plays, a dramatic genre "concerned… with the legends, superstitions, customs, environmental differences, and the vernacular of the common people." The Carolina Playmakers collection of playbills and programs consists of about 350 items documenting the theatrical activities organized or sponsored by the Playmakers, Frederick H. Koch, and, more generally, the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, between 1918 and 1953.

Buege (1915-2007), née Dorothy Meyer, was a resident of Kiel, Wisconsin who traveled with friends Eunice Becker and Louise Kissinger from July 28 to August 4, 1940, via Powers Tours of Chicago to east coast locations across Canada and the United States, including the 1939–1940 New York World's Fair. This annotated scrapbook, compiled by Dorothy, documents her travels via photographs, postcards, newspaper clippings, maps, ticket stubs, and receipts.
