- Benjamin Smith Barton was a naturalist, botanist, and a professor of natural history, botany, and materia medica at the University of Pennsylvania from 1789 to 1813, succeeding Benjamin Rush as professor of medicine. This collection consists of lecture notes taken by four different University of Pennsylvania medical students in Benjamin Smith Barton's materia medica course.
