Abstract:: Montgomery County, situated in southeastern Pennsylvania and established in 1784 out of the western portion of Philadelphia County, has played an important role in U.S. history. Since its founding, it has experienced "booming industry and manufacturing, rich farm fields, advanced transportation, artistic endeavors and unique religious beliefs." The history of the area of eastern Montgomery County has been documented significantly through the collecting efforts of the Old York Road Historical Society. The Old York Road Historical Society photograph collection, circa 1890-2010, consists of various photographs acquired by the Society at various times. The bulk of the photographs are arranged by municipality and then subject. There are also several named sub-collections as well as a collection of real photo postcards.

Abstract:: Joseph D. Marchetti (1922-1991) was a self-employed commercial, newspaper, and portrait photographer for 30 years, based in North Hills, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. The Joseph Marchetti photographs, 1976-1990, includes about 3,000 original film negatives and copy prints depicting various local subjects from eastern Montgomery County, Pennsylvania.

Abstract:: Robert C. Lee was a local commercial and newspaper photographer from eastern Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. The Robert C. Lee photographs and collection of local newsletters and ephemera, 1960-2006, consists of approximately 40,000 images, including some photographic prints with many original film negatives that depict newsmakers and events throughout eastern Montgomery County. A small amount of newsletters and ephemera, such as programs from local organizations, are also included.

Abstract:: Both John W. Ridpath (a Jenkintown pharmacist, newspaper publisher, and borough government official) and his son, William M. Ridpath (an engineer), were amateur photographers. The John W. and William M. Ridpath photographs, 1890-1935, consist mostly of glass plate negatives, with some contact prints and (film) slides created later. John W. Ridpath's photographs include local scenes of eastern Montgomery County as well as some domestic scenes of late Victorian home-life. William M. Ridpath's photographs document his work on the construction of the Panama Canal as well as aspects of life in Panama.

Abstract:: Harry J. Utzy, Jr. (1908-1992) was a commercial, portrait, and news photographer active in the Jenkintown area. The Harry J. Utzy, Jr., photographs, 1926-1985, contain approximately 20,000 glass negatives, original film negatives, and prints that largely document the area of Jenkintown, Pennsylvania. Also included are photographic prints documenting the newly-constructed Alaska Highway (1943).
